Fire detection system in petrochemical industry

Petrochemical companies pay great attention to storage and transportation safety of petroleum products. Despite the fact that various security measures have been taken over the years, there are still many potential threats and causes of accidents. As such, there is demand for simple and reliable security technology in petrochemical industry, which can improve level of automation of enterprise security management.

Fiber interrogation unit (FIU) in conjunction with the temperature sensors (fire detectors) of the OSCT series is a distributed, temperature-sensitive, explosion-proof new generation fire detection system. Fiber-optic temperature sensors (fire detectors) use Bragg gratings for temperature measurement. Sensors are connected in series by means of fiber optic cable, thus forming chain. Their main function is to transmit fire signals in real time from controlled areas (for example, in the place of a sealing ring of a floating roof tank or outside a spherical tank) to a interrogation registering module. 
 

Application features of fiber optic sensors (fire detectors) in petrochemical industry:

  • Explosion-proof: the temperature measurement and the signal transmission from the tank to the operator's console are carried out by means of optical fiber, i.e. a non-electric method of control is used.
  • Simplicity and ease of use: user interface allows you to get visual information about current temperature distribution in the tank.
  • Ability to view current temperature values, history of temperature changes and alarms at each monitoring point.
  • Precise identification of the sensor that triggered alarm.
  • Output of control signals, communication with the fire extinguishing system in conditions of alarm and fire occurrence.
  • The device for signal processing of fiber optic fire detectors, in accordance with the requirements of the customer, can be equipped with a warning and alarm signaling, temperature deviation alarm.
  • Possibility to transmit measured temperature values to central control computer by local network or a special fiber-optic line.
  • High chemical and corrosion resistance.
  • Electrical safety.
  • Significant remoteness of recording equipment off measurement area, short response time.
